Hard work : Perseverance in today’s world

Hard work : Perseverance in today’s world

“Work hard and you can reach success” – This good old saying has been repeated so many times that it has lost its meaning. The problem with today’s life is that you already feel you are working hard, but you are not going anywhere. You went to school and college always trying for good grades or at least passing out. Then you join some job and work hard to get increments. You do exactly how your parents, teachers and guides told you to do.

Getting out of bed, going to college/work, then coming back home and going to bed exhausted isn’t a great life right? What you are doing is just survival. You are doing what everyone else is doing. So, how can you get out of this mediocrity?

The answer is, HARD WORK. I’d like to discuss with you, how to work hard in the modern age. It can be broken down into five components:

  • The motivation
  • The plan
  • The grind
  • The sacrifice
  • The payoff

1] THE MOTIVATION

Motivation is the difference between watching an entire season of your favorite TV series and getting things done. It is the driving force that makes you sacrifice sleep and aim for success.

In order to find your driving force, take a paper and write down your desires and goals in one column. Now, in the other column, start writing at least two to three reasons about why you should achieve your goal. Start asking WHY you should do it. Find your PURPOSE. No, not later. Do it NOW.

I have written an intensive article about MOTIVATIONAL STRATEGIES. Check it out here!

2] THE PLAN

“Goals are great, but without a plan they are merely dreams”

The plan is the map to your success. It is the strategy required to accomplish your dreams.

Many psychological studies, interviews and statistics have shown that, “A plan that is not written is as weak and fragile as a goal without plan” You may have noticed this too! The physical act of writing your plan on paper gives it a conscious and subconscious meaning to it. So, start writing out your plans and strategies to achieve your goal.

Here are two important points to remember while planning out your strategy:

  • Break down your tasks into simple and executable ones.
  • Don’t always focus on the outcome. Rather, focus on your growth.

3] THE GRIND

It is the point where accomplishing your goals stops being fun and becomes stressful and even discouraging. But, how you handle it is what separates you from others. If you quit after years of effort, the net result is the same as if you gave up a few hours after you started. Giving up is the worst thing you’ll ever have to do.

Sometimes, you cannot expect a linear growth in your life. You have to be ready for the Ups, Downs and sometimes even a No-progress-period in life.

The secret to success is to NOT QUIT.

4] THE SACRIFICE

Sometimes, you need to start saying NO to some things in life if you want to reach your goals. You need to start giving up useless and time consuming things in life. Sometimes, you’ll have to be ready to give up fun. You’ll have to be ready to give up anything until you reach your goal. Nothing worth having ever comes easy.

They say it takes 10,000 hours to become a master at something. Rather, it takes DEDICATED 10,000 hours to reach the world class. So, stop wasting your time and get rid of the boring and easy stuff. Get ready to hustle. Start planning up your time, make a schedule and work on your dreams. YOU CAN DO IT!

5] THE PAYOFF

The sweat, the stress, the time, the dedication, the devotion – EVERYTHING PAYS OFF.

FINAL THOUGHTS

“A clay pot sitting in the sun will always be a clay pot. It has to go through the heat of the furnace to become porcelain”

Start living out of your comfort zone if you want to achieve your dreams. Stop living like an average person. You, like every other successful person have the capability to do amazing things in life. This image is for you!

  1. I love this post, especially about the DEDICATED 10,000 hours. Many people seem to forget that doing something is not actually the same as doing something with passion and focus.

One thing I didn’t quite understand is the mathematical image at the end of your post. What are the end values supposed to represent?

    1. The mathematical figures can represent anything. It can be hours of dedication or it can be anything. But the point is to convey that even 1 percent matters a lot.
And, thank you so much 🙂

    2. The mathematics is just a figure that represents the magnitude of how your effort will result in a huge improvement by the end of the year. Consider you have 1$ and you invest it and make a profit of 1.01$ on the first day. The next day you invest the 1.01$ and make a profit of 1.0201$ (1.01×1.01… that is, improving by 1%) and so on for a year. By the end of the year you will have 37.8$, which is a huge amount compared to what you started with. Similarly, the efforts will be rewarded suitably at the end, considering the amount of effort and the rate of improvement in a person.

      1. Yes. I like your analogy of 1$ 🙂 Really appreciate it..
I hope you found this article interesting. Stay tuned for my future posts!

  2. Good job bro “Goals are great, but without a plan they are merely dreams” 2nd point is interesting well done.

    1. Thank you so much dilip 🙂

    1. Thank you!

  3. “hard work” is kind of a limiting belief as you mentioned. This is what our parents and teachers have taught to believe. But perhaps if we just focused in on what we are really good at and comes easy for us, we won’t have to work SUPER hard after all? Just a thought! Great post!

    1. Yes. Passion matters. Check out my post on becoming a world class expert. I’ve spoken about it. Anyway, thank you!

  4. What a great post to read first thing in the morning! I believe what you said about hard work, but some people work hard all day long and have a miserable life. I’m glad that you followed it up with your discussion of a plan, because you can’t just do what other people are doing if you want to be successful. I also like that you talk about breaking down the plan into manageable tasks. I have been keeping my plan in my head and while I have been working hard to achieve it, I think writing it down and breaking it into steps will make it easier. Thanks for an awesome post!

    1. Thank you so much..!
      I really appreciate your words..
Thanks for talking your time to comment 🙂

  5. Inspiring post ! I have been working really hard on my personal projects lately, and it’s good to know that it’ll pay off sometime.

    1. Good luck with your projects 🙂 As I said earlier, do not quit!
I’m glad this post helped you.
Thank you so much for stopping by 🙂
