“Work hard and you can reach success” – This good old saying has been repeated so many times that it has lost its meaning. The problem with today’s life is that you already feel you are working hard, but you are not going anywhere. You went to school and college always trying for good grades or at least passing out. Then you join some job and work hard to get increments. You do exactly how your parents, teachers and guides told you to do.
Getting out of bed, going to college/work, then coming back home and going to bed exhausted isn’t a great life right? What you are doing is just survival. You are doing what everyone else is doing. So, how can you get out of this mediocrity?
The answer is, HARD WORK. I’d like to discuss with you, how to work hard in the modern age. It can be broken down into five components:
- The motivation
- The plan
- The grind
- The sacrifice
- The payoff
1] THE MOTIVATION
Motivation is the difference between watching an entire season of your favorite TV series and getting things done. It is the driving force that makes you sacrifice sleep and aim for success.
In order to find your driving force, take a paper and write down your desires and goals in one column. Now, in the other column, start writing at least two to three reasons about why you should achieve your goal. Start asking WHY you should do it. Find your PURPOSE. No, not later. Do it NOW.

2] THE PLAN
“Goals are great, but without a plan they are merely dreams”
The plan is the map to your success. It is the strategy required to accomplish your dreams.
Many psychological studies, interviews and statistics have shown that, “A plan that is not written is as weak and fragile as a goal without plan” You may have noticed this too! The physical act of writing your plan on paper gives it a conscious and subconscious meaning to it. So, start writing out your plans and strategies to achieve your goal.
Here are two important points to remember while planning out your strategy:
- Break down your tasks into simple and executable ones.
- Don’t always focus on the outcome. Rather, focus on your growth.
3] THE GRIND
It is the point where accomplishing your goals stops being fun and becomes stressful and even discouraging. But, how you handle it is what separates you from others. If you quit after years of effort, the net result is the same as if you gave up a few hours after you started. Giving up is the worst thing you’ll ever have to do.
Sometimes, you cannot expect a linear growth in your life. You have to be ready for the Ups, Downs and sometimes even a No-progress-period in life.
The secret to success is to NOT QUIT.
4] THE SACRIFICE
Sometimes, you need to start saying NO to some things in life if you want to reach your goals. You need to start giving up useless and time consuming things in life. Sometimes, you’ll have to be ready to give up fun. You’ll have to be ready to give up anything until you reach your goal. Nothing worth having ever comes easy.
They say it takes 10,000 hours to become a master at something. Rather, it takes DEDICATED 10,000 hours to reach the world class. So, stop wasting your time and get rid of the boring and easy stuff. Get ready to hustle. Start planning up your time, make a schedule and work on your dreams. YOU CAN DO IT!

5] THE PAYOFF
The sweat, the stress, the time, the dedication, the devotion – EVERYTHING PAYS OFF.
